While DC Comics' Superman battled war time saboteurs
here at home, Marvel Comics' swashbuckling star-spangled super-soldier Captain
America fought for truth, justice and The American Way in the military. Captain
America---in reality, young Steve Rogers---gained amazing strength and powers
from a government science experiment to help the handicapped. At Saturday
matinees, he became Republic Pictures' 32nd and final comic book hero, gun-totin'
district attorney Grant Gardner(Dick Purcell) who battled a greedy madman in a
15-chapter serial. Two more recent pictures starring
Matt Salinger were released directly to video.
A new Captain America is in the works for a 2009 release, Paramount tells us. A
writer and director are already at work.
